The Immortal Calamity

TIC Chapter 64: Heaven Creates a Small Fantasy Realm

Lin Fuqing looked at the ashen Mu Qingxue with a mix of amusement and pity. She was a straightforward girl, and even after only two meetings, it was obvious she was interested in Fang Zhiyuan.

Yet Zhiyuan still managed to conclude that “she doesn’t want to marry me,” leaving Lin Fuqing utterly speechless.

Fang Zhiyuan extended his hand, motioning him to stand up. “Let’s go.”

Lin Fuqing grabbed his hand and allowed himself to be pulled up.

As he approached the golden door, Lin Fuqing considered Mu Hong’s intention

As he walked to the huge golden door and faced the ancient and heavy patterns, Lin Fuqing thought about Mu Hong’s intention.

As they stepped toward the massive golden door, Lin Fuqing considered Mu Hong’s intentions. The patriarch of the Snow Phoenix family was willing to offend the Fang family to tie his daughter to a “calamity star.”

The reason was actually not difficult to guess.

The Fang family’s two legitimate sons were no longer capable. In contrast, Fang Zhiyuan had a strong character and was incredibly talented. He was not only the direct disciple of Daosit Xuyun but was also appreciated by the Immortal Sovereign Lu Kuifu. It was clear that he had an incredibly promising future.

More importantly, Fang Zhiyuan also carried the Vermillion Qilin’s bloodline and had a deep grudge against the Fang family. If he succeeded in overthrowing Fang Tinghai, he would become head of the family.

By then, if he deeply loved Mu Qingxue, he would obey her every word. The Fang family would most certainly become a puppet controlled by the Mu family.

Lin Fuqing’s gaze darkened, and he muttered, “How worthy of being…”

Mu Hong was indeed very capable, truly deserving of being promoted by Fang Zhiyuan in their past lives. Regardless of his character, his scheme to kill with a borrowed knife was indeed superior to the idiot Fang Tinghai.

Seeing him distracted, Fang Zhiyun unhappily grabbed his wrist and said, “Focus, we’re heading in.”

“I know.” Lin Fuqing raised his gaze and stepped through the door with Fang Zhiyuan.

A bright light flashed before his eyes, and they instinctively closed, feeling the space distort around him.

The golden door appeared to be some kind of boundary. The moment they crossed the boundary, it felt as if they had crossed a snow-capped mountain and suddenly arrived in another world.

How wonderful.

Even for cultivators in Tribulation Crossing, traveling through space was still quite a rare opportunity. Moreover, the higher the realm, the easier it was for cultivators to enter a state of contemplation when encountering an opportunity.

As Lin Fuqing’s soul wandered the space, he suddenly felt that his state of “crossing” was actually quite familiar.

He seemed to be alone in the silent night, peacefully gazing at the bonfire rising in the distance.

Time and space had coexisted since ancient times. Could he use this opportunity the comprehend the forbidden art of rebirth that had continued to elude him?

Suddenly, in the darkness of the long night, a deafening sound erupted. A chilling sense of danger quickly followed. Like a cold arrow, it shattered the silence in fragments.

His eyes snapped open just in time to see a streak of light arrive right at his face.

Instinctively, he brought Tunan up to block. The sword rang out, even as a strange force pushed back against his hands like a wave hitting shore, causing blood to surge violently into his lungs!

Able to see his surroundings now, he gasped.

There was no sky or earth. They seemed to be floating in a dark ocean, or trapped in a sticky swamp, with dark waves cascading around.

Countless fiery lights streaked across the air, so fast that they were difficult to catch with the naked eyes.

“Something’s wrong!” Fang Zhiyuan exclaimed, expressions fierce. Gritting his teeth, he pulled Lin Fuqing behind him.

Lin Fuqing’s heart sank. “What’s going on?”

Brows furrowed, Fang Zhiyuan scanned the dark ripples intermixed with flaming steaks of light, and he said in a low voice, “Someone had interfered with the rules of space here. How is it possible…”

A light flashed at the corner of his eyes, bringing with it a familiar sense of crisis. Lin Fuqing’s pupils shrank, but in the next instant, Fang Zhiyuan had already grabbed his shoulders and pulled him aside.

A thin red thread flew out within his field of vision, and he immediately saw a line of blood appeared on Fang Zhiyuan’s cheek.

“Zhiyuan!” Lin Fuqing grabbed him and turned to look for the door they had just come through. “Let’s retreat! Where are the others?”

The huge golden door was still visible, quietly floating in this dark space.

Yet, the moment Lin Fuqing’s voice fell, the door shook, and a graceful figure in white brocade suddenly appeared.

Fang Zhiyuan shouted, “Snow Phoenix! Don’t enter–”

But it was too late.

Mu Qingxue had already fully entered. Having once entered this same door in her previous life, Mu Qingxue didn’t think there would be any danger, and so she was completely unprepared.

In the blink of an eye, a flaming light flashed past, leaving only a trail of afterimages. It hit Mu Qingxue’s shoulder hard!

“Ahhh…”

With a scream, Mu Qingxue stumbled and fell. The brocade fabric on her shoulder was burnt black, and when she placed her hand against the wound, blood gushed out between her fingers.

At the same time, the golden door behind her slowly and silently faded away, disappearing into the darkness.

The situation was fatal, and there was no escape.

“What’s going on?!”

The sudden pain had turned Mu Qingxue’s face pale, her forehead beaded in sweat. Still, she endured the pain and summoned her immortal sword Moon Frost. Looking at Fang Zhiyuan, she said, “Your Excellency?! What’s happening?”

“Useless…” Fang Zhiyuan cursed, then raised his eyes and ordered sternly, “Get over here!”

“Your Excellency…”

Mu Qingxue pursed her lips, knowing that the situation was serious. She hurried over to join Lin Fuqing and Fang Zhiyuan, holding her sword with difficulty.

However, the rules of space had become irrational, and every step seemed heavily weighed down.

Lin Fuging’s expression was grave as he watched Mu Qingxue’s struggle. As he raised his sword to deflect another streak of light, he whispered to Fang Zhiyuan, “She might not be able to make it here on her own.”

The space beside Mu Qingxue fluctuated, and the chaotic light once again pierced sharply from an angle that was difficult to avoid.

The long sword in the girl’s hand was covered with ice and snow. She turned and swung it, deflecting the light. But it was enough to make her unsteady on her feet.

Mu Qingxue’s breathing became a little disordered. A dozen steps behind her, a flash of fire suddenly appeared.

Lin Fuqing’s eyes tightened. “Behind you!”

Mu Qingxue turned back in panic, and the chaotic light in the dark suddenly magnified right in front of her eyes—

At that critical moment, a narrow black light seemed to come from the horizon and narrowly passed by the tip of her nose.

With a deafening “clang”, the blade collided with the string of flame, and it instantly bursted.

It was Fang Zhiyuan who had acted decisively and threw out his sword, narrowly saving her life.

Mu Qingxue reacted quickly and immediately reached out to catch the sword.

But Zaiya had just collided with the flame and was instantly propelled away, where it was completely swallowed up by the turbulent space, disappearing without a trace.

Mu Qingxue was strikened. “Oh no!”

Despite having lost his weapon, Fang Zhiyuan unexpectedly did not curse. Instead, his expression darkened, and he said to Mu Qingxue, “Forget about the sword. Just take care of yourself and stand there.”

Even though he had just told her something like “past life’s favor was past life’s repayment,” he couldn’t just stand there and watch her die in front of him.

Fang Zhiyuan turned to Lin Fuqing. “Shi-ge.”

“I know.” Lin Fuqing nodded, gaining his calm. “Don’t worry. I’ll protect you.”

It had been a long time since his battle with the Outer God called “Wang Zhe.” This every changing space would now be the second battle since his rebirth.

With every step forward, the ground under their feet became less solid.

The sensation of space twisting around them sent a chill down Lin Fuqing’s back. They didn’t know what was going on here, nor did they know what had happened to Yuan Ziyi, Xiao Yaotong, and the others.

The spaces around them were still filled with the shooting light, and every time one hit Tuana, it made a crisp, ringing sound.

Lin Fuqing’s sword was steady. In such an unknown and dangerous situation, the best strategy was to play it safe and protect oneself.

He quickly calculated the twisting ripples of space and carefully made his way toward Mu Qingxue.

In the darkness, Tunan glowed brighter than snow. Exploding flames continued to appear one after another, only to be extinguished by Tunan.

Suddenly, a halo of light appeared in the distance. Lin Fuqing’s forehead was beaded with sweat. He didn’t allow himself to become distracted and instead asked Fang Zhiyuan in a low voice, “What’s that?”

A peaceful aura emanated from the ball of light, quite different from the dangerous stream of fiery lights or the chaotic ripples of dark space.

“That’s a fantasy realm. It doesn’t seem to be affected by the space here.” Fang Zhiyuan placed one hand on Lin Fuqing’s shoulder, channeling spiritual energy into him while saying in a deep voice, “There’s no time to choose. Enter it the moment an opportunity arises.”

Lin Fuqing glanced at him. Then he paused, and quietly said with a wink, “How about I send Mu Qingxue in first?”

…It would be a nuisance if she stayed here anyway.

Fang Zhiyuan was shocked. “Send? Do you think…Are you sure?!”

Lin Fuqing answered, “I can.”

Fang Zhiyuan understood. He looked at Mu Qingxue and shouted, “Turn around and raise your sword with both hands!”

Mu Qingxue was already very anxious. Hearing his shout, she subconsciously followed his order and pushed her sword forward.

Lin Fuqing took two steps forward, his sword’s momentum shifting as he swept across the air. The spiritual energy of heaven and earth erupted like a dam bursting, surging outward.

The mighty but non-murderous energy slammed into Moon Frost at an angle.

Mu Qingxue’s white figure flew backward like an arrow, and with a scream, she plunged directly into the halo of the fantasy realm.

Suddenly, there were only two figures remaining in this dark space.

“What do you think?” Lin Fuqing weighed Tunan and said to Fang Zhiyuan with a smug grin. “Do you want to look for Zaiya, or should we enter a fantasy realm first?”

Fang Zhiyuan felt a sense of relief.

As he was about to speak, something caught his attention. Expression twisting, he shouted, “Shi-ge! Behind–!”

It was not a black surge, nor was it a chaotic, flaming light.

From the corner of his eyes, Lin Fuqing saw that the space behind him had suddenly expanded, forcing open a gap. From that gap, a fierce red light spelled out like magma bursting from an open seam.

Two thoughts immediately appeared in his mind nearly at the same time.

His first thought was: Oh no, move.

His second thought was: Too late.

Before these thoughts could even fully form, a loud explosion came from behind him.

A red light shot upward, blurring his vision. Yet, he didn’t feel any pain at all.

His pupils shrank as he stared blankly at the small silver-white magic circle that suddenly appeared around him, its surface floating with runes.

At this moment, Lin Fuqing understood that this was the magic circle that he had tried to force Fang Zhiyuan to explain to him, but the man had refused to do so.

But now, each rune was clearly visible before his eyes.

Panic burst hotly across his chest, and he turned his head.

A few steps away, Fang Zhiyuan suddenly stumbled, his face turning a stark white. A large mouthful of blood bursted from his lips, spilling onto his clothes.

A similar silver-white magic circle was also floating around him.

One body and two souls, one bearing the life-threatening injury of the other.

This was a formation where one life could be exchanged for the other.
