TIC Chapter 19: Path of the Proud and Unrestrained Youth

Xuyun Sect was da shixiong’s Xuyun Sect. In the seven years since its establishment, Xuyun Sect only accepted people with yin bodies as outer disciples, becoming a place of refuge.

Shen Xiaojiang knew that, without da shixiong, those grandparents, uncles, aunts, and brothers and sisters whom he’d spent every day and night with, laughing and playing together…

They would have long become cold corpses.

He was the same.

For seven years, Lin Fuqing continued to personally reinforce the Heaven and Earth Gathering Array on the Four Peaks of Xuyun to protect them from cruel harm and the pursuit of people from the outside world. At the same time, it also prevents people with yin bodies from endangering the outside world.

Although many outer disciples had never seen da shixong’s true appearance, as long as they raised their eyes and saw the peaceful blue sky above their heads, it was as if they saw a god reaching out and saving them from the sea of suffering.

—Da shixiong is extremely talented and unrivaled in the three realms. This is the first ironclad rule of Xuyun that was quietly circulated among the outer disciples.

Their da shixiong was naturally the best, gentlest, and most powerful da shixiong.

And these outer disciples…

“What’s going on? This kid is almost dying, but Lin Fuqing isn’t ready to take action?”

“Even a well-meaning person would die of exhaustion if he has to clean up the mess of a bunch of useless people every day.”

“That’s right. Look, although Fang Zhiyuan is a disaster… ahem, at least he has done a good job in cultivation and doesn’t bring shame to Xuyun Sect…”

The scent of blood permeated at Shen Xiaojiang’s throat. His lungs were heaving, and his eyes were so swollen that it was difficult for him to see those “geniuses” standing some distance away.

Yin bodies were natural constitutions and had nothing to do with cultivation talent. Most of the “disciples” in Xuyun outer sect actually had no qualifications for cultivation.

These outer disciples…were trash.

Shen Xiaojiang knew, he knew everything.

But he really didn’t want to… in a place like this…

He didn’t want to embarrass da shixiong!

Da shixiong’s clear and pleasant voice rang in his ears.

“Step forward, eleven, three.”

Shen Xiaojiang took two steps forward, crouched down, and swung his sword.

The sword was like a whip, and he performed the eleventh move — Tiger Tail Sweeping the Ground.

The sword energy swept across the yin monster’s legs. Taking advantage of the yin monster’s unstable body, Shen Xiaojiang followed up with a leap to stab the willow!

Lin Fuqing: “Retreat!”

Things were moving too fast. A real battle was a matter of life and death.

Shen Xiaojiang didn’t even have time to think; he jumped back with all his strength!

Black air loomed before his eyes, and the monster’s teeth grazed the tip of his shoe and bit down. The hard soil under his feet suddenly cracked and exploded into a ball of sand, gravel and dust!

Lin Fuqing: “Thirteen, seventeen, nine, twenty-one.”

Shen Xiaojiang struggled forward and swung his sword continuously, with the bright white sword beams interweaving like a net.

He didn’t realize how miraculous it was that he, a young cultivator who had just established his foundation, could hold out for so long under the claws of a yin monster with just a sword and twenty-five basic sword techniques.

He also didn’t realize that the young talents around him who were laughing at him had gradually stopped.

He was sweating profusely, and his sight was full of stars. He could only hear the faint words spoken by his da shixiong. Lin Fuqing’s voice was always calm, as if he had everything under control.

So he was not afraid.

He firmly held his sword.

Until–

“Ahhh——!!!”

The demon let out a sharp howl and fell down stiffly.

“Ah?”

Shen Xiaojiang suddenly raised his face, which was covered with blood, dirt, and sweat. Panted heavily, he stared blankly at the sword under his hand.

That couldn’t be. He hadn’t had time to inflict any fatal damage to the monster yet…

For some reason, the onlookers suddenly became excited.

Everyone looked up to the sky, and some people even had fanatical worship in their eyes.

Shen Xiaojiang raised his sweaty eyelashes and saw an ice-white feather arrow piercing the back of the yin monster’s heart.

Yin qi gushed out like crazy.

In the blink of an eye, the yin monster had turned into a wisp of black smoke and dissipated.

And a snow-white girl’s graceful figure descended from the sky and landed in front of Shen Xiaojiang.

“It’s Fairy Mu! Fairy Mu’s back from fighting yin monsters!!”

“It’s the Snow Phoenix of the Mu family!!”

“She is so pure and beautiful…”

Shen Xiaojiang sat on the ground in a daze, murmuring amid the crowd’s shouts. “So beautiful…”

Most fairies wear long skirts with colorful ribbons, but she was dressed in a snow-white brocade outfit, holding a slender long bow in her hand and a quiver on her waist, looking heroic and unparalleled in her beauty.

—The eldest daughter of the Mu family, the only daughter of the patriarch Mu Hong, one of the most talented and gifted girls in the younger generation of the Immortal Realm, the “Snow Phoenix” Mu Qingxue!

Mu Qingxue’s expression was arrogant and cold. Her beautiful eyes swept across the crowd of people who were shouting enthusiastically and landed on Lin Fuqing, who was standing peacefully under the osmanthus tree.

She moved her body and flashed under the tree, and with soft and delicate hands, she thrust the longbow into the ground!

“Lin Fuqing…Lin Da Shixiong, are you just watching this show?”

Mu Qingxue glared at him. “How could you bear to let such a young child fight against the yin monster alone!”

There was a moment of silence in the room. Shen Xiaojiang was stunned. No one had expected this.

Even Lin Fuqing couldn’t have imagined that the eldest lady of the Mu family would suddenly appear “from the sky.” He raised his eyebrows in surprise, but just then Mu Qingxue leaned over.

Under the shade of the tree, the girl’s beautiful face was cast in shadows. With her cold voice lowered in hatred, Mu Qingxue said from between pearly teeth:

“Very good, Lin Fuqing, ah Lin Fuqing…You are truly so cold-hearted by nature.”

“You are indeed worthy of being the future Lord of the Demonic Path!”

“…….”

Lin Fuqing was almost choked by Mu Qingxue’s words.

With a frown, he raised his head slightly and narrowed his clear black eyes.

Although he had been prepared to face the reborn souls of the previous life, but…

It was unexpected that someone would come up to him and call him “the future Lord of the Demonic Path” so openly and without pretense…

Lin Fuqing looked around.

Good. Fortunately Zhiyuan and the others hadn’t returned yet.

Mu Qingxue’s words “Lord of the Demonic Path” were actually spoken as a voice transmission, so the people around her didn’t hear it.

However, anyone with a discerning eye could detect the hostility of the Mu family’s Phoenix towards the eldest Xuyun disciple, and they all found it somewhat strange.

Shen Xiaojiang stumbled over, covering his wound. “Da Shixiong!”

He stood in front of Lin Fuqing, his face covered in blood and bruises, facing Mu Qingxue with bright eyes.

Although this fairy was very beautiful, very powerful, and had saved him… But! It was absolutely not okay to bully his da shixiong!

Mu Qingxue was stunned. She didn’t expect that the child was still so devoted to Lin Fuqing even after being beaten so badly. She also felt a little embarrassed and annoyed.

Seeing those crazy young talents around her pointing and talking, she didn’t want to cause any more trouble, so she angrily spat, “Devil! You better not fall into my hands during the challenge!”

After saying that, the girl put her longbow on her back and walked away with “noble and cool” steps.

Lin Fuqing finally came back to his senses.

Then he waved to Shen Xiaojiang.

“You fought well.”

He ignored Mu Qingxue.

He had an impression of the eldest daughter of the Mu family in his previous life. Mu Qingxue had followed the immortal leader Fang Zhiyuan for many years. Her immortal name was “Snow Phoenix.” Her cultivation was at the peak of Nascent Soul, and she was considered the backbone of the immortal path.

But, that was all.

The eldest daughter of the Mu family, one of the most favored daughters in the immortal world, the Snow Phoenix that everyone was crazy about… and the first reborn soul to show up on her own initiative.

From beginning to end, she was unable to get the eldest disciple of Xuyun to say even a single word to her, and in fact, Lin Fuqing didn’t even give her more than a glance.

As for Shen Xiaojiang, he was so surprised by the praise from his da shixiong that he almost fainted. “Really…really?!”

Lin Fuqing smiled, not minding the dirt and blood, and rubbed the child’s head. “It can be better.”

So Shen Xiaojiang fainted directly.

“……..”

=========

After a moment.

Ye Huaguo, who was driven away by Lin Fuqing, rushed back after hearing the news and looked at the injured child in horror. “H-how, how did he become like this!?”

She stuffed a few pills into Shen Xiaojiang’s mouth, and then look at Lin Fuqing, tears almost falling. “Da shixiong! Are you hurt? D-D-Don’t scare me!”

Fang Zhiyuan lifted the girl up with one hand like a rabbit and said, “Stop yelling. It’s just a yin monster. Do you think shige is as useless as you?”

Lin Fuqing: “…”

Could it be that this little troublemaker hadn’t realized that someone that looked at him from head to toe a hundred and eighty times?

He whispered to Fang Zhiyuan, “I just saw a reborn soul. Mu Qingxue, you should be familiar with her.”

Fang Zhiyuan’s eyes flickered, and he raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Snow Phoenix? So it turned out to be her?”

The future Immortal Sovereign thought for a moment and said, “It’s fine. Snow Phoenix Mu is a straightforward person and doesn’t have any shady schemes. Just be careful not to let her bully you.”

A gust of wind blew, and countless osmanthus flowers fluttered down from the sky.

The fragrant golden flowers, as if drawn by a mysterious force, slowly fell into the hands of every young talent on site.

Fang Zhiyuan reached out and caught his flower. “The challenge has begun.”

The appearance of these fragrant golden osmanthus symbolized that the Golden Osmanthus Challenge had finally officially begun.

To obtain this osmanthus flower, the competitors must be immortals below fifty years old and had a cultivation of foundation establishment and above.

The competition would last for half a month, with three sessions a day, divided into morning, afternoon and evening.

The osmanthus flower would determine each opponent. In order to prevent villains from using sinister means before the battle, each person’s true opponent would be concealed until the previous round of the competition.

When it became someone’s turn to compete, the osmanthus flower would open a teleportation array and send them to the corresponding competition area. The competition was opened to all cultivators, and the disciples of the Golden Osmanthus Palace would personally supervise and judge each competition to ensure fairness and justice as much as possible.

Lin Fuqing looked at the osmanthus in his hand with great interests. “What other uses does the osmanthus in the Palace have? It can be used as an invitation letter, a communication talisman, or a teleportation array…”

He looked at Fang Zhiyuan and asked quietly, “But can I eat it?”

Fang Zhiyuan folded his arms and nodded. “Yes. But the ones planted outside are probably not as good as the ones deep inside the palace.”

He actually thought seriously about it and added, “I’ll go in and steal some for you tonight. Shige can make osmanthus porridge, osmanthus cake, osmanthus glutinous rice and lotus root, etc….”

“Ahem.” Xun Mingsi coughed hard to draw everyone’s attention back to the right path, “Is anyone among us one of the first competitors?”

Song Youdu shook his head. “I’m not.”

Neither were Lin Fuqing and Fang Zhiyuan.

Ye Huaguo glanced at Shen Xiaojiang’s osmanthus, breathed a sigh of relief, and smiled. “Fortunately Xiaojiang isn’t one either, otherwise he would have to withdraw!”

As she was stroking her chest in relief, she caught a glimpse of the glowing golden osmanthus flower in her hand from the corner of her eye.

Xuyun Sect’s Ye Huaguo, First Morning Competitor.

In the north pavilion of the Palace, she would compete against Chen Zhen of Sword Valley.

Her smile froze.

Beside her, Song Youdu said, “Oh!” and added, “Congratulations, good luck.”

“D-d-da-da Shixiong

The cry was so loud that the birds on the branches were startled and flew away.

“I, I, I, I, I…” Ye Huaguo cried with a pale face. “I’m the first competitor…!!”

The author has something to say:
The first person that was reborn!

…was judged by both the Immortal Sovereign and the Demon Emperor to be of no threat and no use.

thank you for the chapter! the story is a lot of fun: i love the dynamic of the doting, “my way” shixiong and the surprisingly responsible, fierce, hot-tempered shidi that’s easily coaxed … i wonder who else might be reborn (maybe the master of the osmanthus palace)? mu qingxue also seems like a good person, maybe she’ll join the mc and ml’s camp~

looking forward to the next parts of the story!

i totally agree with you! fang zhiyuan doesn’t seem to be very extroverted (LOL), and it’s not like he has a personality where he’d love to be in charge of other people, so it 100% seems like he only took up the role for lin fuqing. what’s funny is that lin fuqing (through his rose-tinted, doting-on-shidi goggles) seems to think that fang zhiyuan being the immortal soverign doesn’t seem that odd, thinking that it’s suited to him LOL
